A heritage grain. A California tradition, growing again.
For centuries, grains thrived in Southern California soils. We’re restoring that legacy on our organic farm in Ojai.

From our farm
The wheat shares the land with our holistically grazed sheep-and-goat “flerd” and pasture-raised chickens, framed by Chief Peak and the Topatopa Mountains.
A heritage grain
White Sonora is a soft winter wheat introduced by Spanish missionaries over 300 years ago. Likely the first wheat in the New World, it was widely grown by the Akimel O’odham and locally by the Coastal Chumash.
At your table
Mild, sweet, and buttery, with a pleasant chewy “pop” when cooked. Softer and creamier than hard red wheat berries, with a texture closer to farro or barley.
A soft wheat suited to tortillas, cakes, quick breads, and pastries. Sold here as whole wheat berries.
Keeping California’s
agricultural traditions growing.

Golf Balls
An errant shot. A fortunate find.
Not everything we harvest grows here. Thanks to the golf course next door, some very nice golf balls find their way onto our pastures. Since we’re all about re-use, we recover them, clean and inspect every ball, and give them another round.
